Most of my work explores the idea of fragility and how my relationship with myself, femininity, and people around me has affected who I am and how I view myself. I am very inspired by painters Georgia O’Keeffe and Agnes Pelton, musical artists such as Mazzy Star, Lana Del Rey, Fiona Apple, and Nirvana. I am also inspired by poets and authors such as Sylvia Plath. Language has always been something that has really inspired me, music and books have been a constant in my life when the world around me was chaotic.
Nature is something that fuels my work a lot and is in most of the paintings I create in some way. Nature has a way of saying all the things I am feeling in a different way than I can say them mself, so I take elements of animals, plants, and bodies of water to use and influence my abstract process. The ocean is a common theme amongst my work. It is powerful but beautiful; produces life and takes it. It is an ecosystem within an ecosystem and really allows for the renewal of life while also having the power to take it away. That is one thing I gravitate towards just as a person; how can something so scary be so beautiful? That, along with the imapact that nature has had on me in my life, has fueled my creative practice.
